Opposition Senator reigns
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Senator Devon Rachae Wednesday resigned as a member of the Upper House, the second opposition legislator to quit in the last two months.
A statement from the opposition New National Party (NNP) said that Rachae, 23, quit to further his academic career.
His resignation follows that of Kennedy Roberts who left in December citing problems with his academic studies.
The NNP statement said that Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Mitchell has since advised the Governor General that, Rachae, who was the youngest legislator in the Senate “would no longer continue to serve in the Upper House of Parliament”.
The statement said that Rachae, who was unsuccessful fort the Central St. David’s seat in the last general election, would continue as caretaker for the constituency.
Meanwhile, former deputy prime minister, Gregory Bowen, has been named as Rachae’s replacement.
Bowen, the NNP chairman joins economist Anthony Boatswain and lawyer Dwight Horsford as the three opposition Senators in Parliament.
