Grenada PM hails ‘special’ relationship with Havana
HAVANA, Cuba, CMC – Grenada Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, who is on an official visit to this Spanish-speaking country, has hailed his country’s relationship with Cuba as special.
Thomas, speaking after a two-hour long meeting with President Raul Castro at the Palace of the Revolution on Monday, said while the two countries were going through their own difficulties, there are still areas that they can work together on.
“We are still able to work together to our mutual benefit, whether its health, education or in the international community in areas such as climate change,” the Grenadian leader said.
He noted that Grenada and Cuba have a long history of collaborating on major issues, pointing to Cuban assistance in the construction of Grenada’s largest economic project, the Maurice Bishop International Airport.
While here, Prime Minister Thomas, Foreign Affairs Minister Peter David and other members of his delegation from St George’s attended an official dinner hosted by President Castro.
Earlier, the delegation toured an agricultural cooperative, Alamar’s Organoponic, and the El Mino meat processing plant which processes pork to hams, sausages and other specialty pork products.
“I believe these are some of the things we can directly benefit. The technology is available and Grenada can engage Cuba to help us strengthen our own resources for local use and for export,” the Prime Minister said.
“I am really excited with what I see here because it is something we can learn from, especially the techniques used in your fully organic operation,” he added.
