Social development, UNIFEM – Gender responsive HIV prevention strategies roundtable

St. George’s Grenada, Thursday March 11th, 2010 – Representatives from the education, health and social sectors will convene at the National Stadium from 9:00 am on Friday 12th March 2010 to look at gender responsive strategies for HIV prevention.

A round-table is being held as part of a project, aimed at strengthening gender responsive prevention approaches, given the growing understanding that harmful gender stereotypes and relations are drivers of the HIV epidemic in the Caribbean region.

The project which was started in 2009 has a number of components, including the capacity development for persons in the health and education sectors. This policy round table will continue to focus on prevention and will allow for discussion on the further development of strategies aimed at youth, both in and out of school.

The roundtable discussions will be attended by persons engaged in youth outreach from both governmental and non governmental sectors.

Organizers are seeking to strengthen the resilience of Grenadian youth, so that they can be better protected.
